Stadium Expansion update

… The current expansion of Old Trafford, with the capacity rising to 70,000 from the home game against Birmingham City on March 26 and reaching just under 76,000 from the start of the 2006-07 season. United expect to earn an extra £16m in match-day income next year and, by then, should have in place a new shirt sponsorship deal bringing in around £15m. “We’re looking forward to strong revenue growth driven by the current expansion of Old Trafford and the prospects of more lucrative sponsorship,” said the spokesman.
With debts of about £540m, the Glazers are still entitled to be concerned that United have been overhauled in annual earnings. However, Deloitte’s findings do not take into account the clubs’ expenditure. For example, United receive a flat sum of £20m every year from Nike for replica shirt sales without any manufacturing or distribution costs. Real’s income from replica shirts is around twice that of United, but they have to cover costs.
