GLOSSOP North End boss Steve Young urged his hungover Wembley hopefuls to sober up to the reality that they risk blowing their chance of promotion from the Vodkat League following a shock 4-3 home defeat by lowly Formby.
Young’s FA Vase semi-finalists lost valuable ground on third-placed neighbours New Mills, 3-0 winners over Winsford, as well as top-two Newcastle and Fylde as they were brought crashing down to earth by the Squirrels in front of their own Surrey Street fans.
ASSISTANT-manager Graham Barrow warned Altrincham’s off-colour strikers they quickly need to buck up after seeing the sickly Robins suffer a third successive Blue Square Premier defeat in losing 2-1 at lowly Grays.
Missed chances were the main cause of Alty’s undoing as they went down to a side who hadn’t previously won since New Year’s Day.
Two goals in seven minutes either side of the break put the skids under the Moss Lane visitors after they’d failed to cash in on their own scoring opportunities.

NORTHWICH Victoria’s caretaker-boss Andy Preece hopes to let his results do the talking in his efforts to become Steve King’s long-term successor.
The former Bury chief has made an instant impact at the Marston’s Arena since being drafted in as King’s temporary replacement, guiding next-to-bottom Vics to goalless draws against Kettering and Barrow to offer them the faintest chance of repeating last season’s miraculous Blue Square Premier relegation escape.
Northwich’s new-found confidence will be put to the test when they entertain in-form promotion candidates Stevenage.

FC UNITED manager Karl Marginson has reacted with bemusement to the red cards shown to him and star player Jerome Wright in the stormy finish to last week’s draw with Buxton.
Wright was sent off for a second yellow card after tangling with an opponent – who also received a booking - and Marginson was dismissed to the stands after protesting to the referee and linesman over the incident.

GLOSSOP North End have drawn Needham Market or Chalfont St Peter in the semi-finals of the FA Vase.
The will play the first leg away on March 28 (kick-off 3pm) with the return game on April 4 (kick-off 3pm).

GLOSSOP boss Steve Young was celebrating what he called his “proudest moment as a manager” as his side surged into the semi-finals of the FA Vase with a 5-2 victory over battling Marske United of the Northern League.
Midfielder Rick Bailey was the hero of the day with two goals and two assists, but Young refused to single out any member of his side for special praise, declaring “the whole team were awesome.”
It could not have started better for the Hillmen when, on two minutes, winger Dave Hodges received a throw-in in the box. He twisted into a shooting position to give North End the lead, and 10 minutes later Bailey tapped in from six yards, taking a Darren Hamilton cut back from the by-line.

FC UNITED’S wanted man, Jerome Wright, further impressed his growing band of potential suitors by hitting the goal which put the Rebel Reds on the road to victory at Kendal.
York City target Wright, who’s also thought to be being chased by at least two League clubs, struck to give Karl Marginson’s men a 13th minute lead as they sought to bounce back from two successive UniBond premier division defeats.
Simon Carden then made it 2-0 shortly before the half-hour mark and, though the Cumbrians pulled a goal back with a 65th minute penalty awarded against Simon Garner for handling, FC held on.

GLOSSOP has been bitten by the Wembley bug after the High Peak town’s footballers continued their record-breaking FA Vase run by marching proudly into the quarter-finals with a smash-and-grab victory at Bitton.
More than 150 Glossop fans - around threequarters of their regular home following - travelled to Gloucestershire to see the Hillmen book a home date with St Ives Town or Marske United a week on Saturday with goals by the two Daves - Hodges and Morris - securing a 2-0 win which takes North End into the last-eight for the first time in their history.
But the Surrey Street side at times had to ride their luck, with 16-year-old keeper Ashley Gotham covering himself in glory by saving an early penalty and Bitton hitting the woodwork on four occasions.

United target Phil Marsh was the main architect of their downfall with a hat-trick which included two penalties. Chris Thompson bagged Leigh’s other goal.
Neil Chappell and debutant Carl Lomax replied for the Rebel Reds. DROYLSDEN boss Dave Pace insists the Bloods can still achieve promotion from Blue Square North despite being faced with a mounting fixture backlog.
Pace’s 10th-placed side have so far played only 22 league games - fewer than any of their rivals - and, with just two-and-a-half months of the season left, have a lot to do if they’re to make a successful push for the play-offs.
But the Butcher’s Arms chief is adamant Droylsden remain well-equipped to bounce straight back to the Blue Square Premier league as they prepare to return to action after a fortnight’s weather-enforced lay-off with a trip to lowly Blyth Spartans.
