DROYLSDEN boss Dave Pace insists the Bloods can still achieve promotion from Blue Square North despite being faced with a mounting fixture backlog.
Pace’s 10th-placed side have so far played only 22 league games - fewer than any of their rivals - and, with just two-and-a-half months of the season left, have a lot to do if they’re to make a successful push for the play-offs.
But the Butcher’s Arms chief is adamant Droylsden remain well-equipped to bounce straight back to the Blue Square Premier league as they prepare to return to action after a fortnight’s weather-enforced lay-off with a trip to lowly Blyth Spartans.

FC UNITED‘S UniBond premier promotion push skidded to a halt on a day when all but three of the region’s senior semi-pro clubs saw their games fall victim to snow and ice.
The rebel Reds’ hopes of consolidating their position in the play-off places came well and truly unstuck as their run of five wins in six games was ended in a crushing 3-0 defeat at title-chasing Nantwich.

FC UNITED may be without top scorer Kyle Wilson as they launch a final push on promotion from the UniBond League.
The former Crewe striker, who has scored 23 times, suffered a knee injury in last week’s win over Guiseley which may rule him out of tomorrow’s trip to Nantwich.
Youngster Danny Williams will be drafted into the squad but manager Karl Marginson is also toying the idea of pairing either Jamie Baguley or Jerome Wright with Tommy Turner.

ALTRINCHAM new boy Jody Banim made himself an instant hit at Moss Lane by scoring to sink the Robins’ ailing Blue Square Premier neighbours Northwich Victoria.
Banim’s 28th minute strike was all Alty needed to secure a victory which lifts them three places to 12th and puts them firmly back on course to achieve boss Graham Heathcote’s target of a top-half finish.

The in-form Irlam outfit looked set to make a shock last-eight exit when they trailed their Eccles League rivals Lower Kersal Social Club 1-0 with three minutes left.

ROCK-bottom Northwich’s slide towards relegation from Blue Square Premier continued with a crushing 4-1 defeat at Woking.
And similarly stricken Leigh remain anchored at the foot of UniBond premier following a 2-1 home loss to Worksop.
Ashton United fell further behind FC United in the race for promotion as they tumbled 2-1 at Ilkeston, while, in division one north, bottom-of- the-table Salford are still 14 points short of safety despite holding visiting promotion hopefuls Ossett 1-1.
FC UNITED boss Karl Marginson insisted justice had been done after seeing his promotion-chasing Reds produce a stunning late comeback to beat fellow UniBond premier division high-fliers Guiseley.

HYDE United player-manager Neil Tolson insists his troubled Tigers are ready to claw their way to safety as they prepare for tomorrow’s crucial home clash with fellow Blue Square North strugglers Redditch.
Two wins in their last three games have resurrected Hyde’s hopes of beating the drop.
Victory over Redditch would take them out of the drop-zone and Tolson, who’s setting his wafer-thin squad a 45-point safety target, is optimistic that’s where the cash-strapped Tamesiders are heading.

ALTRINCHAM boss Graham Heathcote hailed his resolute Robins after they’d ended Burton’s record-breaking run of 12 successive Blue Square Premier victories by holding the leaders to a 1-1 draw.
Alty were full value for the point secured by sub Joe O’Neill’s 25th minute strike and could even have taken all three had it not been for the brilliance of Burton’s veteran keeper Kevin Poole.
Said Heathcote: “For us to have matched the best team in the league on their own ground underlines just how much we’ve progressed this season and the fact we’re disappointed not to have won speaks volumes.”
FC UNITED christen Leigh Genesis’ new stadium tomorrow night, with manager Karl Marginson hoping for a little more luck than they had at the weekend.
The Rebels hit the woodwork an astonishing SEVEN times in the 2-1 defeat at Witton Albion, six of them in the second half, and Marginson is hoping that such ill fortune does not befall his team against the UniBond premier’s bottom club at Sports Village Stadium.

SALFORD City have named ex-Droylsden star Neil Hall as their fourth manager this season after being shocked to discover the third, Paul Wright, is banned from football until March.
The UniBond League strugglers had handed Wright the job of succeeding Ash Berry, who himself had replaced Gary Fellows just six weeks earlier.
But Salford have now turned to Hall after it transpired Wright still has five weeks to go before completing a six-month suspension imposed for a serious touchline breach committed while in charge of his previous club, Flixton.

STALYBRIDGE’S Blue Square North promotion challenge suffered a late jolt as they allowed rock-bottom visitors Hucknall to escape Bower Fold with a 2-2 draw courtesy of an injury-time equaliser.
Andy Smart’s 78th minute thunderbolt had put the slick Celts within sight of victory, only for Gary Sucharewycz to halt their celebrations when he headed home a minute into stoppage-time.
Keith Briggs had earlier nodded Bridge into a 34th minute lead, but Danny Bacon levelled following a goalmouth scramble.
